A Day Out in St Andrews and the Fishing Villages of Fife

This day tour through the fishing villages of Fife and to St Andrews is perfect for a little break, not far from Edinburgh. Leaving the city via the Forth Bridges it takes you along the Firth of Forth and through the romantic fishing villages there, like Anstruther where the Scottish Fisheries Museum is based. On a clear day, you can enjoy a magnificent view across the Firth of Forth to Edinburgh and East Lothian.

A highlight of the tour certainly is the university town of St Andrews, also known as the home of golf. The university is said to be the third oldest in the English speaking world and is also popular with the Royals, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge actually met here. But the town has much more to offer. In former times an important religious centre for Scotland, the cathedral is now only a ruin, but still very impressive. The ruins of St Andrews Castle have many stories to tell.

For golf enthusiasts the famous ‘Old Course’ is a must-see. You can even walk across it and take pictures, as long as nobody is teeing off. Located within the ‘Old Course’ and also a very popular photo motif is the iconic Swilcan Bridge.

Not far from the famous golf course, you can go for a walk on the beach used for filming the opening scenes of ‘Chariots of Fire’ and enjoy the beautiful view of St Andrews Bay.

The last stop of this tour was South Queensferry, with a magnificent view of the Forth Bridges.
