The 2015 programme for the Edinburgh International Festival has just been released. The Edinburgh Festival, as it’s collectively known, is actually an amalgam of many individual programmes, and the International Festival is just one of these. It brings together an enormous array of the most prestigious dance, theatre and classical music performers in the world and takes place this year between the 7th and the 31st of August. So what’s on the menu this year? You can have a look at the full programme by clicking on the link at the bottom, but for starters we thought we’d share some of our favourites from the list:
Vivaldi’s Four Seasons: Anne-Sophie Mutter, one of the world’s most eminent violinists, will be treating us to a highly anticipated performance of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins. Mutter will be joined by an inspiring selection of soloists to perform these Baroque favourites as well as a brand new piece written specially for the occasion by André Previn. Antigone: Anne Carson’s new translation of Sophocles’s tragedy will be brought to life by an incredible cast and an equally talented director. Juliette Binoche, remembered most notably from the film Chocolat, will take the lead as Antigone in this play directed by Ivan van Hove, who is regarded by many as one of the greatest living theatre directors in Europe.
